Ariel Quartet

April 18, 2019 @ 8:00 pm

Formed in Israel nearly twenty years ago when its members were students, the Quartet was recently awarded the prestigious Cleveland Quartet Award.  The Ariel serves as the Faculty Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music, where they play their own annual series of concerts in addition to their busy international touring schedule.

PROGRAMME:

Neue Bahnen (New Paths)

Schumann – Quartet No. 1 in A Minor, Op. 41, No. 1

Beethoven  –  Quartet No. 11 in F Minor, Op. 95, “Serioso”

Webern – Five Movements for String Quartet, Op. 5

Brahms – Quartet No. 2 in A Minor, Op. 51, No. 2

This programme derives its title from the famous article Schumann wrote in 1853 heralding a new era with the arrival of then-unknown Brahms.  The programme highlights the special relationship Schumann and Brahms shared, and looks back to Beethoven and forward to Webern.
