Canadian National Brass Project

The Canadian Nation Brass Project is comprised of the best symphonic brass players from around the country. Under the leadership of Artistic Director James Sommerville and Administrative Director Sasha Johnson the ensemble has been the winner of the highest prizes at the Munich, Toulon, and CBC competitions. Mr. Sommerville, a distinguished recording artist, has been a member of the Toronto and Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra, Symphony Nova Scotia and was acting solo horn of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. Under the baton of Mr. Sommerville, the ensemble will be performing Gathering of the Armies from Lohengrin by Wagner, Concerto for Brass Band by Kevin Lau, Ponti Pelee by Howard Cable, Passacagliah and Fugue in C minor by Bach, Set To by Mark Anthony Turnage, Summoning the Wither (a world premiere) by Scott Good, Variation on a Theme of Thomas Tallis by Vaughan Willams, Sleep by Eric Whitacre and the Allegro con brio section of Symphony No. 5 by Beethoven.
